• Another final of a NOT recommended myth is that placing an aspirin on a sore tooth is better than swallowing the aspirin. FALSE! Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) can cause swelling in soft tissues, sometimes leading to burns, and also complicate existing dental issues. Aspirin must be swallowed and enter the blood stream in order to attain its analgesic effects.
